Qué es la Capoeira?

La capoeira es una manifestación cultural afrobrasileña que combina lucha, danza, acrobacias, música e historia. Más que un deporte, es una forma de expresión, resistencia y comunidad.

Raíces africanas y nacimiento en Brasil

La capoeira nació entre los pueblos africanos traídos como esclavos a Brasil. En los ingenios de azúcar y las plantaciones, estos pueblos utilizaron la música, el ritmo y el movimiento como forma de mantener viva su identidad y entrenarse para la libertad, disfrazando el combate como danza.

Prohibición y resistencia cultural

Durante siglos, la capoeira fue perseguida por las autoridades coloniales y posteriormente por la República. Practicarla era ilegal. Los capoeiristas se organizaban en secreto y muchas veces se asociaron con movimientos de resistencia urbana.

Renacimiento y legalización

A comienzos del siglo XX, figuras como Mestre Bimba y Mestre Pastinha lograron legitimar la práctica de la capoeira. Mestre Bimba desarrolló el estilo Regional, mientras Mestre Pastinha rescató la Angola tradicional.
